Rubble

about

"Rubble" is a song I wrote a while ago. I find I need to remind myself that we are all here together for only a very short span of time. We go back to what we came from soon enough. So the question for me is always: what's really important? The wordiness of the lyric contrasts the blues-like guitar ostinato, which is in turn complimented by Kirsten Elliott's voice and flute playing. The artwork is provided by artist Jason Dufresne from a work that indeed end up as rubble!

lyrics

Life is a game we play for keeps
Though little we do is permanent
We keep growing by bounds and leaps
To the point where we're impertinent

It's always darkest before the dawn
And calmest before the storm
It's a mistake to think that life is long
Just as bad to think that life's too short

Sun burns down, the moon rises high
Impervious to our struggles
Sooner or later we all pass by
We all return to rubble

Does the tree that grows first put down roots?
Or stretch branches up to the sky?
In the end you know the point is moot
Without either the tree will die

Sun burns down, the moon rises high
Impervious to our struggles
Sooner or later we all pass by
We all return to rubble

Sooner or later we all pass by
We all return to rubble
Sooner or later we all pass by
We all return to rubble
Sooner or later we all pass by
We all return
